Cassie's First Big Girl Haircut

Cassie's bangs were hanging in her eyes, so I took her to the Plaid Monkey for her first big girl haircut today. I didn't get any pictures of her at the salon b/c she got her hair cut on my lap, but I snapped a few pics when we got home.

Getting crafty...

So I decided to go a little over-the-top for Cassie's bday party. I started out w/a onesie. I found iron-on rhinestones (who knew?), some rosettes and ribbon, and four yards of pink tulle. I added a little elastic and now Cassie has a dress fit for a PRINCESS for her bday party in a month. I think I'll have her 11 month pics taken in it too, just b/c I'm so pleased w/how it turned out. And I have lots of leftover rhinestones to deck out another plain onesie. Now I need to find a tiara...

Yes, he did inherit his father's fashion sense...

So I let Chase dress himself for school the other day and this is what he came downstairs in. It was Spirit Week, hence the hat. The Harley outfit is b/c he likes motorcycles. The soccer socks are b/c he thought they looked cool. I didn't, but whatev. I should have snapped a pic of him on Sunday when he wore black dress socks pulled up to his calves and a Spiderman outfit (shorts and a sleeveless shirt). I tried explaining that it didn't match, but he pointed out the black in the outfit matched the black socks. So then I told him that pulling up black socks w/shorts is a fashion crime. He thought it looked cool. Dad was over for dinner and pointed out that he did the same thing. Uh--exactly!

Courtesy of the craptastic weather, baseball tonight is cancelled. I'd be lying if I said anyone in the family is upset about that. Well, maybe Jamie b/c he's installing a new garbage disposal tonight and I suspect he'd rather be pitching to six year olds than doing home repairs. But given the 20 degree drop in the temp since 9am this morning (it is now 57 degrees--yeah, I'm really buying this global warming thing)--Chase and I are greatful we won't be freezing our tushies off tonight.

Despite the awful weather this weekend, we did manage to hit the pool for about 45 minutes on Sunday. Cassie actually did much better than I thought she would--once she adjusted to the freezing temps, she loved the water. I saw a mom I was "pregnant" with last summer--she has a daughter a week younger than Cassie, so Cass will have a little playmate at the pool this summer. Chase had a great time, as usual and I had to drag him out of there, blue lips and all!

He also had a great time at Grandpa Jim's lake on Saturday and caught six fish all by himself. Cassie and I spent most of the day at Grandpa and Grandma's house where she napped on my lap and I watched movies w/Aunt Stacey. I'll post more pics when I download them...

In 10 days Chase will be a first-grader! WOW! He is so excited about moving up to first grade. Today is an early release day, I'm picking Dylan and Chase up from school and Dylan will spend the afternoon here. I usually bake cookies or something for them--I don't know what today's project will be yet.

Cass is really fighting naps and sleep these days. I spent all of Grey's Anatomy rocking her last night. My easy baby is turning into a not-so-easy toddler!

I scream, you scream...

So Cassie had her first ice cream on Friday night after Chase's soccer game. She LOVED it! I'm not surprised, I ate a skinny cow ice cream cone every single day of my pregnancy with her--is it any wonder that she loves ice cream? (With Chase it was granny smith apples, he still eats an apple a day!) I mentioned the ice cream experience to Dad, so he brought ice cream for dessert last night. Chase and the rest of us had Buster Bars. Cassie had a cup of vanilla. She didn't like me spoon feeding her though--she wanted to feed herself. So she used her hands and chowed down!

We had a crazy busy day yesterday--we worked on the side landscaping, mulched, powerwashed, and I recovered the exterior furniture cushions. We still need to paint, stain, powerwash some more, and work on the front landscaping, but we made a dent in the mile long list yesterday...

Chase was home from school yesterday w/an ear infection in his left ear. After a dose of motrin and some ear drops, I think he rather enjoyed his day off. He spent the better part of the day working on his new Lego Star Wars ship. An afternoon visit to the ped confirmed the ear infection. He's back at school today--he slept well last night and seemed to be feeling alright this morning.

I'm hoping Cass doesn't come down with it. She and I are going to visit Nina and baby Lucas today when she wakes up from her morning nap. I'm looking forward to getting a newborn fix since Cassie has gotten SO BIG!

Here are the promised pics from Chase's Mother's Day Tea on Friday. It was the cutest thing in the entire world. They had so much stuff for us--they did mommy portraits (hilarious) and a cookbook (Chase's recipe was for store bought sugar cookie dough and if you burn the cookies, you have to go to the store to buy more dough) and all about their Mommy sheets. Chase was the only kid in the class who knew both his mother's weight and age . Well, he said over a hundred pounds, which is true. All the other kids had guesses like 40lbs and 50 lbs or 20lbs. Not Chase. They sang a bunch of songs for us--it was really super cute. I wish there was a Mother's Day tea every year instead of just in kindergarten...

They also had sillouettes of the kids for us. I recognized Chase's right away because (1) he has my baby nose (2) his was the only one w/eyelashes in sillouette. His sister is going to hate him for those lashes in 15 years...I'm going to frame the sillouette though--it is THAT beautiful! Oh, and we got his Spring pics this weekend. Because apparently it is no longer profitable enough for the photo companies to do school pics once a year, they must do them TWICE a year now. I was thoroughly annoyed by this until I saw the pics, they are so stinking cute that I bought them all. They're really very cute.

I'm off to bed. Despite a wicked migraine, I had a relatively productive day and I'm beat.

Payback

When I was six years old, I had chicken pox on Mother's Day. I remember having plans for a big fancy brunch out that we had to skip b/c of my chicken pox. Chase is six. He doesn't have chicken pox, but he does have a fever and nasty cough. The last time he presented symptoms like this, it turned into pneumonia. So our plans (church and a few meals out) for Mother's Day are on hold--I'm guessing we'll do takeout when Jamie gets home though instead of going out.

I did get to use my Mother's Day gift tonight. I got a new set of pots and pans. I made Kraft Mac and Cheese for the kids and me. B/c of Chase's infant/toddler lactose intolerance, he didn't have mac and cheese until he was a preschooler. It's one of Cassie's favorite foods. And one of the few she can eat. She's got a rash on her face right now courtesy of the whole wheat bread she had for breakfast--it's definitely safe to say she's allergic to wheat. I hope she likes rye bread as much as her brother does b/c she won't be eating whole wheat anymore!

I'm off to put Cassie to bed for the night (only one nap today so she's extra grumpy and tired), then I'm going to cuddle w/Chase and watch home improvement shows (his favorite and mine).

Happy Mother's Day to all my mommy readers! As always, I'm grateful for the two little miracles (and beagle boy too) that call me Mommy. I'll post pics from Chase's precious kindy Mother's Day tea from the desktop later this week. It was really the most adorable, wonderful thing, EVER!

Celebrity Snark

Call me a bitch if you must, but can someone please tell me why every single photograph of Suri Cruise shows her sucking on a baby bottle? She's three. Cassie is using a sippy cup right now and she's 10 months old. Is this a Scientology thing? B/c Leah Remini was on Rachael Ray a few weeks ago and her four year daughter still had a bottle. I don't get it. I just want to snatch that bottle out of her hand and replace it w/a proper cup.

That is all.

Edited to add: Dinner tonight was a big hit. Cheesy Chicken Roll Ups. I used whole grain tortillas, shredded mexi-blend cheese (1 cup of 2%), 2 cups of shredded cooked chicken, and salsa. Slather salsa on a tortilla, add chicken, roll up burrito style. Fill an 8 X 8 pan (I made 5) and top w/shredded cheese. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. I topped mine w/guac, Chase ate his plain. YUM-O!

It's Cinco de Mayo!

I don't think Cassie knows though--she's still working on those teeth and NOT a happy little girl. :) I guess I need to cook Mexican for dinner though...

Last night Jamie and I went to Bread Co after dropped Chase off at AWANA. There was another little girl there about Cassie's size. She was 15 months old. And the same size as Cass. Jamie and I were amazed. She's cruising all over the house--Jamie had to put latches on the kitchen cabinets yesterday b/c she's all about getting into those right now. Some (like pots and pans) I don't mind. But not so much w/the plastic bags and cleaning supplies under the sink.

Chase was in a good mood when he headed to school--let's hope that translates to a happy face for him today, he had a rough week last week.
